Within a conscious dialogue aimed at the moderation and textuality of today´s art, we find this presentation of a selection of artists who have colour as a common source. In the tradition encompassing, and in the wake of Johs. Rian, artists are working with a form for expression which has its source within colour. A timeless affinity – a haven within colour – provides the opportunity here for a group of artists to confirm and expose colour´s genuine meaningfulness, is endowed with power, mystery and sensuality.
The occasion for this exhibition is to emphasize and if possible to encourage visual consciousness by focusing on colour as a visual quality, and consequently honor a tradition / phenomenon which has spent time in exile.
Colour has a leading role to play as a form of independent expression, not merely as method but as an independent language in a dialogue with art´s formal, legitimate strategies. As a development area, Textual Art ( which includes painting ), leaves little of the traditional parameters intact. Nevertheless this seems not to make the «charge» that painting carry, ideologically, aesthetically or historically, any less dramatic, but on the contrary more demanding to accomplish. Thus, having to «read» painting within the given, media-specific codes, has to a greater extent robbed the viewer of the possibility of direct stimulation. Colour´s energy fields – and undoubtable capacity to enlighten and stimulate – act independently of convention. Colour can be everything. The ability to listen to colour, as one can listen to Rian´s incomparable world of tonality, in this sense a meridian in a sphere of experience, not always harmonious, but peculiar and vibrant – as colour often is.
